DCBA Chinese New Year Gala 2019 was held on February 23rd

On February 23rd night (Saturday), DCBA Chinese New Year Gala 2019 was held at the quaint and elegant Royal Park Hotel in Rochester Hill. Over 320 friends, members and sponsors gathered to celebrate the Chinese New Year together.

In order to better encourage members to interact with the cities and businesses around Detroit, we have carefully selected the annual New Year Banquet venues. The ingenious design of the banquet halls and the unique decoration and embellishment of the banquet halls have brought out the details DCBA’s teams considerations.


At 5 pm., the guests begin to arrive at the hotel one after another. Gala guests stopped at the front of the welcome board to leave a beautiful commemoration for the annual dinner.



During VIP welcome reception before the general banquet, guests greeted each other and everyone cheered happily to exchange the joy and harvest of success in the past year. Musicians from Oakland University Music Department brought a wonderful sonic performance during both receptions and main cultural program.



At 6:30 p.m., the New Year banquet officially began. Mr. Dan Wiiliams, a well-known host from China International Television, and Ms. Carol Cain, the famous host of CBS 62 Television, co-hosted the dinner and kicked off the banquet. On behalf of the Detroit Chinese Business Association, they first welcomed the guests whom travelled from the East and West Coasts and other states to attend the event. They then introduced four junior hosts; Troy Liu, Erik Josson, Jenny Tian, and Chanel Stevanovich, they presented in Mandarin Chinese and English languages to our gala audience.

At the invitation of the host, Ms. Carol Cain, Mr. Brian Gao, the president of Detroit Chinese Business Association, first delivered a speech. He first warmly welcomed and thanked all the guests and politicians for coming. He also thanked the sponsors of the event, the annual sponsors, members, and governments at all levels, business and industry friends, and volunteers for their many years of support. He said that the team of Detroit Chinese Business Association will continue to contribute to the exchanges between China and the United States in all aspects of economic and cultural exchanges. He reviewed the major achievement of the Association in 2018. Although there has been a transition period of friction between China and the United States due to trade issues in the past 2018, the Michigan and Great Lake regions, which are the manufacturing centers of the United States, have also been affected in varying degrees. He believed that the economy will continue to develop in 2019, and the relationship between China and the United States will surely grow.
DCBA hopes that everyone can make full use of our business platform to support each other. At the same time, Mr. Gao also mentioned the three targeted activities were launched in the following March-April to enhance exchanges and interactions among members and explore new ideas for trade issues.

Mr. Jeff Mason, President of the Michigan Economic Development Corp., attended and represented on behalf of the new elected Governor, The Honorable Gretchen Whitmer, who planned to attend, though scheduling conflict with national Governor’s conference.
On behalf of the Governor, MEDC CEO Jeff Mason first affirmed and praised the Detroit Chinese Business Association for its contribution to the economic development and cultural exchanges of the region over the years, and made outstanding contributions to the economy and friendship between Michigan and China. At the same time, the current state government will actively support the development of Chinese business enterprises.
Secretary of Transportation Madam Xiaolan (Elaine) Zhao, who originally planned to attend and deliver a keynote speech on the infrastructure construction policy of President Trump’s government. Because of the federal shutdowns, Ms. Monica Kuo, her special assistant Envoy attended and spoke on her behalf.



Before that, Madam Xiaolan Zhao sent a congratulatory letter to Detroit Chinese Business Association for the contribution of building a friendship bridge between China and the United States.
Subsequently, Mr. Jun Liu, the Acting Consul General of the Chinese Consulate General in Chicago, delivered a speech. He optimistically and positively reviewed the recent achievements in the cooperation between China and the United States in the fields of economy, trade, culture and education. Although there have been some frictions in trade between China and the United States, the two sides try to negotiate and resolve their differences. He praised the contribution of the Detroit Chinese Business Association over the years and hoped that they will continue to play its role. Lastly, he sincerely invites enterprises and to actively participate the 2nd China International Import Expo.

Under guidance and support of Advisory Board Member, Detroit Chinese Business Association has been sustainably developed. Mr. Jason Luo, the Chairman of the DCBA Advisory Board, fully affirmed the work of the Association and expected to achieve greater results in the future under the leadership of President, Mr. Brian Gao.
He then introduced the special event sponsors, BMTS Technology, Mr. Scanny Cai, the Vice President of Global Strategic Planning from BMTS Technology, gave a speech and broadcasted the company’s film, which introduced the comparison of future turbocharging trends and battery energy.


The development of Detroit Chinese Business Association is inseparable from the long-term support of the sponsors. With their support, the association can develop better and go further.


The sumptuous dinner was served right after the sponsors took the pictures on the stage. While everyone enjoyed the culinary delights, the musicians from Oakland University Music Department performed a beautiful music pieces, “Ballade No.4 in f minor Frederic Chopin’ and “Colorful Clouds Chasing After the Moon” enjoyable and memorable dining experience.

In order to discovering and encouraging students to be more involved in business between China and the United States, the MAYE Foundation awarded scholarships to two outstanding student representatives this year. Congratulations to Chining Qiu from Taiwan and won the “Outstanding Volunteer Award”, and Kailin Wang from Shanghai, and won the “ Outstanding Dedication Award’. Ms. Peiyu Wu and Dr. Dan Hoppe from MS&P, a long-time supportive sponsor, awarded scholarships and certificates to two award-winning students.

Rocket Mortgage PGA Classic sponsored the annual golf tournament tickets as a lucky draw for the banquet. Mr. Andy Walters, from Rocket Mortgage PGA Classic drawed four lucky winners from the guests for VIP golf tournament experiences.


This year’s Chinese lunar calendar is the Year of the Pig, which is the symbol of wealth, joy and peace. Detroit Chinese Business Association specially prepared the “Fu Pig” piggy bank for the guests who born in the years of the Pig, and wished them a happy and full of wealth in the new year.
In order to grow and provide better services to sponsors and members, and contribute to the development between China and Michigan relations. Susan Zhang has joined the DCBA team, and she introduced herself on the stage to everyone.
