  • The Tool Engineer will be a resource dedicated to the launch, improvement, and optimization of the tooling within the facility and scheduled for the facility.
  • The individual will Support the Die Maintenance, Production, and Quality areas with technical expertise regarding the tooling.
  • Ready for a new opportunity at a global logistics company at a global logistics company in Plymouth, MI.

Essential Duties

  1. Understand and comply with all OSHA, safety and PPE requirement
  2. Design, verify, and follow up with tooling for each product
  3. Develop new automotive production lines
  4. Design and develop new molds and checking fixtures
  5. Verify, check and accept molds and checking fixtures
  6. Understand and comply with all ISO and environmental requirements
  7. Improve overall processes and related issues by taking a pro-active lead in the Continuous Improvement Activities
  8. Create, document, develop and deliver procedures to ensure the tooling meets all targets relating to Quality, Cost and Delivery
  9. Support the Quality group in evaluation and improvement of product dimensional reports
  10. Support the Program management group in evaluation of new work and tooling
  11. Program tracking and follow up of new program tooling scheduled for facility
  12. Evaluate existing tooling and develop in source plans for tools moving to facility
  13. Support all tooling launch activities
  14. Project leader for all tooling related engineering changes
  15. Lead individuals and team meetings when implementing engineering changes, improvements, and major repairs
  16. Tool and Die support during on-line troubleshooting and implementation of corrective actions
  17. Support the Tool & Die department with root cause analysis and repair plans
  18. Communicate with contractors and shops for outside repairs
  19. Develop and maintain die drawing library
  20. Maintain current knowledge of tool and die industry technology and advances
  21. Focus on Tool & Die knowledge and implement continual training to employees
  22. Develop spare parts requirements and assist in procurement options
  23. Support team functions by:
    • Kaizen submittal and implementation
    • Cross-training with others
    • Backfills other work stations as needed
    • Problem Solving
    • Supports operational metrics and meets operational needs

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic/Mechanical Engineering/Technical degree or equivalent work experience
  2. 4+ years automotive tooling experience preferred
  3. Required to know software applications such as Pro-E and AutoCAD
  4. Strong communication and interpersonal skills required
  5. Quality Assurance knowledge required
  6. Effectively able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  7. Working knowledge of MS Office
  8. Handle the stress of a fast-paced environment
  9. Complex problem solving
