EVENTS IN AUGUST --
DSO Symphony Concert
DCBA was invited to attend the Sister Cities Celebration Concert by Detroit Symphony Orchestra on August 6th. This performance was featuring the Detroit Symphony Youth Orchestra & Toyota City Junior Orchestra, in order to celebrate 55 years of friendships between these two cities. DCBA team members were gladly pleasure witnessing the cultural icon of our great city and enjoying the fantastic symphony performance with Mr & Mrs Katayama.

We at the DCBA support all those who support Detroit and feel a special affinity for Asian/Michigan partnerships.

Japan Consulate-General Farewell Reception
On August 7th, the day after the DSO Concert, the Detroit Chinese Business Association attended the farewell reception, which hosted by Consulate-General of Japan in Detroit, Dr. Kazuyuki Katayama, the 220 friends and dignitaries from across the globe toasted and celebrated their new chapter in life. Though we are saddened to see Mr. and Mrs. Katayama leave us earlier than expected, we are happy to hear they have been reassigned to Shanghai China, and this will be Dr. Katayama's fifth time living in China.

We look forward to meeting with the Katayama's on DCBA upcoming Medical Trade Mission to China this November, and we look forward to meet the new Japanese Consulate General for Michigan and Ohio soon.

DCBA Annual Appreciation Summer Picnic
On Saturday August 15th the DCBA held its annual Member appreciation picnic at Bald Mountain Recreation Center. Many members and their families came out to enjoy the day. We were also honored to have special guests from the Border Business Club (BBC) of Windsor, Ontario join us.

The atmosphere was relaxed and jovial and the weather was hot! Everyone who came was treated to some great food and beautiful scenery. The BBQ was full, the beer and water were ice cold and thanks to all the kids the ice cream was gone before it melted! There was an
intense game of volley ball and Perhaps in part due to the heat, the Children (and one DCBA intern that shall remain nameless) got into a water fight of astronomic proportions.

It was a day for fun, family and community. It is this community that

we at the DCBA are focused on. The greater Detroit community, the Chinese community of Michigan, our community. It is our belief that we all rise and fall based on the strength and breadth of our relationships, and in this endeavor we aim to help our entire community achieve great success!

Before the ceremony guests were treated to a wine and cheese reception. As the ceremony began guests were seated and Miss Hannah Han, general manager of Shenrui China, came to speak. Thanks were given to all the attendees and honored guests were invited to come speak. After the guests had spoken, including DCBA president Jerry Xu, the Chariman of Shengrui Mr. Liu Xiangwu addressed the room. Mr. Liu graciously acknowledged and thanked his local team and all those who have helped make the new office a reality.
